today’s promising young women. Below are links to information regarding some
of these opportunities

the community and world a better place through their volunteer efforts.

Ceec Abrahams Memorial Scholarship

The Sierra Nevada Region of Soroptimist International of the Americas annually offers a $2,000.00 Ceec Abrahams Memorial Scholarship to a woman from the Sierra Nevada Region majoring in the field of Women's Studies or a field which will qualify her for a career of service for the benefit or betterment of people, especially one that would improve the
quality of the lives of women.

S Clubs

A facet of Soroptimist's commitment to youth takes the form of local clubs sponsoring "junior" community service groups: an "S" Club is a group of high school students who wish to serve their school and community by working on worthwhile service projects; a Sigma Society is a group of college-level students seeking an avenue for community service. Both groups strive to build communities through service, to work with school authorities in building schools with high standards and ideals, and to prepare members to assume leadership roles in the business and professional world. For more information, click on the "S Clubs" link to email the region.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN:

The Sierra Nevada Region provides scholarships and awards for women and business that support the status of women. Below are descriptions regarding some of these opportunities. If you would like more information please email the region. Fellowships for Graduate Women in Doctoral Programs Fellowships and grants-in-aid are awarded annually to outstanding women students working for doctoral degrees. Women’s Opportunity Award

Women’s Opportunity Awards aid mature women who must enter or return to the job market in order to support themselves and their family. These women need additional skills, training and education to upgrade their employment status. Candidates should be heads of households completing undergraduate programs or entering vocational or technical training programs. Competition begins at the club level, with local awards set by the participating clubs.

Making a Difference for Women Award

The Making a Difference for Women Award acknowledges women who are working to improve the lives of women and girls through their personal or professional activities. Their efforts help to promote the issues that are important to the Soroptimist organization. Honorees are women who have worked in extraordinary ways to benefit women and girls. Examples of the type of work honored include: spearheading an effort to open a domestic violence shelter, working to secure health services for low-income women, starting a mentoring program for at-risk girls, or lobbing companies to provide on-site child care. The program enables local Soroptimist clubs and the Soroptimist organization to thank these women and encourage others to explore ways to assist women and girls. The program begins on the club level, where the type of recognition varies. Award winners at the club level are eligible for additional awards at other levels of the organization.
